Farm days and Capertee Valley

Enjoying Capertee valley

May 2 - 6 2022 Nauti time 057 - 061

Having lovely days on the farm getting up for a nice early long walks with Ella (boy I miss being able to do that each day when boating) Enjoying the beautiful trees and views around this property. There are so many gorgeous areas it is a joy to explore and the Kangaroos although very skittish are an absolute delight.

We headed in to Mudgee one day which is a very nice rural town with all the main shops available, we had a lovely dinner at the quaint local pub, we helped with kitchen renovations (Toby and Rick dismantled a fire place hearth and installed a new 90cm free standing stove and oven, I mowed the lawns of the home paddock on the ride on, Helen mulching paddocks with the tractor. I tried one round with her but the cab is definitely not designed for 2.

Discovering the magnificent Capertee Valley Canyon that is the second largest canyon in the world with the Grand Canyon being first of course but how did we not know this one even existed let alone it’s in our own back yard. It is so beautiful with its dramatic escarpments and gum tree lined valley. It’s even home to some of the oldest living trees dating back to the dinosaur era 110 million years ago. They are called Wollemi pines and there are less than 100 in the wild. Only discovered 10 years ago by a bush walker these trees grow up to 40 meters tall with trunk over one meter diameter. Now how did we not know this? And all just 10 minutes down the road from Helen and Toby!

Awe inspiring scenery in Capertee valley

On Our final day we went venturing into the valley having brunch at the little ‘from the paddock’ cafe while overlooking the escarpments of the surrounding hills then following off beat tracks into the heart of the canyon. It was spectacular to be surrounded by the magnificent cliff faces and wild beautiful gums. a memory etched in my mind forever.

It was hard to say good bye as we had such a great time but our sea adventure awaits.
