The making of the entrance

Glassy lake and no wind

16 March 2022 Nauti Time 010

So Rick awoke in the early hours with an uneasy feeling. When we were motoring the other day we felt like we hit something or maybe got something around our prop that made the starboard engine shudder a bit. We turned it off and only used it again to come in over the bar and it seemed fine then. Rick dove on it a couple of days ago and there was nothing on the prop and is seemed ok however it has obviously been weighing on him that there is a possibility it could be the bearings of the sail drive ( that turns the propeller). So we have now arranged to get hauled out at the shipyard here on bullock island which is just down about 500 meters from where we are! The guys at the yard have been super helpful and can do the lift out tomorrow afternoon and they have arranged for a mechanic to check it out first thing Friday so if we need any parts he can order and have there by Monday. What awesome service. We were going to haul out in Queensland and do a service there but given we have to wait for a weather window and Ricks uneasy feeling we are just going to get it done here. We have even been able to organize the guys to redo the anti foul (the paint on the bottom of the boat that helps prevent crustaceans growing on it) which we had planned to also do up north. How luck that the shipyard is big enough for us, they can fit us in and the mechanic can come so fast! It was all meant to be I think.

Going adventuring leaving Nauti Kitty to be looked after by her big brother!

Once we had all plans in place for tomorrow we went adventuring over to the flagstaff jetty where there is a lot about the history of the creation of the entrance back in the late 1800s. It was amazing to see there was still part of the original walls they built and the engines they used. The structure they housed the explosives in was still in such good repair it was obviously built to last. We also explored along the foreshore where the houses that were originally for the workers and their families still today are only to be sold to relatives of the original families. They do have an ideal location I must say. Might have to search our ancestry!
